Thank you for choosing to sign up for NewsChannel 21’s Weather Watcher program! There are many challenges the weather teams face when forecasting for Central Oregon. The biggest challenge is a lack of observations throughout the High Desert. The best way to overcome this obstacle is to rely on our community—people like you—to provide valuable observations. You need three things to become a NewsChannel 21 Weather Watcher:
1 – A thermometer (digital or analog) placed outside away from extraneous heat sources and not in direct sunlight for most (if not all) of the day.
2 – A spot outside with level grounding and a ruler/yard-stick for measuring the occasional snowfall. This spot cannot be a deck, patio or sidewalk and preferably should not be in a wind-blown area because of drifting.
3 – A passion for High Desert weather and an eye for neat photo opportunities! Whatever the weather, sunny, foggy, wet, cold, snowy, dry, we want to know about it. When the weather gets interesting, document it with a picture or two and send them to us, where we might show it on-air to help tell the weather story!
